Why is your participation in the Census important?
The census is a competition for resources and representation. In the 2010 census, Collier County had 71% participation rate which then cost our county over $155 million for each of the last 10 years. This funding is used for infrastructure, schools, hospitals, emergency response, as well as programs and services too numerous to name here. As of June 10, 2020, our participation rate is 51.2%.
All residents in our county – citizen and non-citizens alike – need to participate and their household data is confidential and cannot be released to the public or to any government agency for 72 years. For residents who may not be eligible to vote (under 18, non-citizens), this is the best way to make your voice count. Only 5 minutes per person in your household is needed and yields more than $1400 per person per year in funding. Please go to www.2020census.gov to be counted today.
